A land owner in Costa Rica had a private site (empty, rundown) and asked our small team of 8 designers to turn it into a public space within 2 months. Our budget came entirely from fund raising, and our site was designed and built(!!) by us, with our hands. We constructed the paved ground, poured the concrete for the stairs, built the furniture out of concrete (using discarded material as molds), planted trees, formed a climbing wall, built a vinly mural, and painted the entire site. The mural, which includes illustrations I created of the people in the neighborhood (I also decided on the checkboard print for the faces!) is one of my favorite moments. At the bottom, you can see a before and after comparison, taken less than 60 days apart.
